Shah Rukh Khan's comeback and 'the lure of awards': 'This award was made by Ranbir Kapoor'

I love awards so much, I'm greedy when it comes to awards. I want to tell you that the best thing is that I am back.'

These are the words Bollywood's 'Badshah' Superstar Shahrukh Khan said to his fans after winning the Best Actor award at the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) held in Abu Dhabi.

Shah Rukh Khan was talking about returning to films in 2023 after a gap of four years.

"I think this year I have a bit of joy for the audience because I have acted (again) after a long time," he said at the Bollywood star-studded event.

There is a lot of talk about this IIFA award ceremony on social media and some movie fans say that the best actor award should have gone to Ranbir Kapoor for his performance in the movie 'Animal'.

However, the film 'Animal' won several awards including the best film award, including the best supporting actor award for Anil Kapoor.

Shah Rukh Khan is a household name in India and one of the country's most popular film stars with a huge fan following across the globe.

Not only did he bag the award for his role in the upcoming action thriller 'Jawan' last year, he also co-hosted the event in the UAE capital, which has a large Indian population.

He was greeted on stage with fireworks, and the entire program seemed to be a tribute to him.

But Shah Rukh Khan, during his speech, praised all the actors in the running for the award, including Ranbir Kapoor and Sunny Deol. He thanked everyone involved in the film Jawan and also thanked Deepika Padukone.

Khan's return to the big screen was one of Bollywood's biggest success stories last year. In the same year, his spy film 'Pathan' also came out and set a box office record.

The 58-year-old actor plays an action hero in the film, while he has been known for playing romantic heroes in his film career spanning over three decades.

His return to the big screen comes after setbacks in his personal and professional life. These include the arrest of his son Aareen Khan on trumped-up charges of drug possession, who was later acquitted of the charges while some of his earlier films failed to meet expectations.

'

But in the meantime, his distance from the limelight is unlikely to dampen his popularity. The charming and humorously spoken word actor is often described as Bollywood's 'most important cultural export'. His millions of fans fondly call him 'King Khan' or 'Badshah' of Bollywood.

The event on Saturday was also attended by other Bollywood megastars, including Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol.

Rani Mukherjee won the best actress award for the child custody film 'Mrs. Awarded.

While Sandeep Reddy Wanga's 'Animal' won six awards, including Best Film and Best Supporting Actor for Anil Kapoor.

Filmmaker and director Karan Johar hosted the event along with Shah Rukh Khan. The renowned filmmaker was also honored with a special award to mark his 25 years in cinema.

Actor Vivek Oberoi praised Shah Rukh Khan and said on stage, "Many people have fame and power, but Shah Rukh Khan, what makes you special is that you empower people with that power

Rani Mukherjee and Shah Rukh Khan are also being praised on social media for their scenes in the film 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'.

A user named Amy Stone wrote, 'I question the multiple awards presented at IIFA 2024 but heartwarming to see you receive the Best Actor award for all your dedication and hard work at Jawan. Honestly, the young man deserved more awards.'

Many users wrote that 'Shah Rukh Khan praised everyone in his award speech, he is truly a man with a heart of gold.'

A user named Kedia Vishesh posted an IIFA clip of Vicky Kaushal and Shah Rukh Khan dancing and wrote: 'Believe that he (Shah Rukh) will be 60 in two years but Shah Rukh in every frame. I am defeating Vicky Kaushal. What kind of energy is that?'

Many people have also posted pictures of famous South Indian actress Samantha Prabhu who has been honored with the 'Woman of the Year' award.

A user named Para Fida wrote, "What logic is there that the best film award was given to Animal but the best actor award was given to Shahrukh Khan for Jawaan." I was never interested in Bollywood awards but so flattering!'

In response, another user wrote, 'I want Shah Rukh but he was not even close to the best actor award this year. Keeps Ranbir apart for once.'

Still, there have been better acts than Shah Rukh. IIFA has lost its credibility long ago. Whoever joins the award will give them the award.'

One user simply wrote, 'I am a fan of Shahrukh Khan but this award should have gone to Ranbir Kapoor for his performance in Animal.'
